Curso de luthier/Luterie class

Post by earthjig » Mon Nov 08, 2010 5:07 am

Hi to all,

Miguel Alonso Cachafeiro is an Asturian Gaita Maker (by the way, in my band we all play with his gaitas).
To tell you the truth, we're all very pleased with his instruments.

On his website he proposes to teach how to be a gaita maker. These studies will last 3 years.

This might be interesting for those who live in Colunga-Asturias, or for those who can afford these studies.

For what I've read, the enrollment costs 1600 euros. You also have to add 180 euros per month (10 months by year).
The studies last 3 years, so the total would be :

1600 euros + 3*(180 euros *10) = 7000 euros (That's 9750$)

If you're interested, here's his webpage :

I think it's a very good thing to teach people, unfortunately the price is way too expensive.
Some people may like it, and by this become the next generation of gaita makers.
Others (like myself) who don't live in Asturias, but would like to learn this profession. Well, let's just say it's impossible for us.

I invite all to add more info on this forum, so we can help every one who'd like to learn this craft, like myself.

Therefor, I would like to give special thanks to CHUS SoLIS, who is very active on this forum and who had already given information ans schematics regarding his gaitas.

Yep

Too expensive. It's too bad, because I know a lot of people (in Galicia or Asturias) that would kill to have such classes.

In fact, the University of Vigo has those kinds of classes.
If I'm not mistaken, the teacher is Carlos Corral (the son of Anton Corral).

Anton Corral is famous for having led the Banda de Gaitas Xarabal, and for having made the gaitas of lots of players (Carlos Nuñez, Xose Manuel Budiño, Anxo Pintos (from Berroguetto) ,...)
