Gaita electronica

Post by Celtpastor » Sun Apr 19, 2009 6:30 am

Ola! Anyone here knows, what happened to the Gaita electronica that was developed together with Hevia? I recently tried to find one, but it seems, it's not produced anymore! Does anyone know, why? :?:

I'm not sure it was ever produced at all, I think Hevia had the only one. Did anyone ever see one besides his? The same with the v-pipes - very nebulous.

Actually, it was produced, even - more or less - advertised for on Hevia's first few albums. Some other Asturian bands used it, e.g. the wonderfull Punk/Ska/Hardrock-Band "Dixebra". So - how come, they stopped producing it? Seems also, Hevia doesn't work together with the Gaitamaker he developed it with anymore - maybe that's why?

sorry but that gaita is no longer produced. I had one and sold it to a friend of mine. Www.aedo.be

Other groups that use it are Luar Na Lubre and Kadril (www.kadril.be) as far as I know

Any idea, why it's not produced anymore? I mean - it was ugly, but yet cool, and the sound - as well for Gaita as for Uilleann - was really not bad...

Well, one reason could be the high price.

I believe the original price was around 10.000 euros (more or less). This price included Gaita and Sampler. You also needed to buy an amplifier. So the price was way too expensive. No one can buy such an instrument (well you can if you're in a group like Luar na Lubre)

There is still the alternative of a midi-chanter (with samples), see the webpage of José Presedo (http://www.mastergaita.com

Nooo - I remember it was listed for 1500 (or so) Euros, really not that much! I guess the problem must have been that Hevia and his former pipemaker somehow separated, and I remember the patents on these pipes were on both names - so I guess, they just couldn't find an agreement about these!
Btw.: Bands that used them: Hevia (of course), Llan de Cubel, Dixebra (to name just those I know personally).
