HI Lucky,
I was told by a player on another forum that this is the scottish- influenced
style that is ued today for open-fingering gaitas. He was trained by a traditional
player in the old fingering method:
x xxx xxxx B
x xxx xxxo C
x xxx xxoo D
x xxx xooo E
x xxx oooo F
x xxo ooxo G
x xoo ooxo A
x ooo ooxo B
o xxx xxxo C

Since I am "wired" for highland pipes, I was looking for an open style that would be
the least trouble for me to learn. I have begun using this fingering with my chanter
+ mouthpiece combination.

I think there are scottish influences in somethings, and there are common sense things:

Push the pinkie finger in their hole when you are playing in a open fingering galician chanter is not an scottish influence. A lot of old players do it, and believe me, they are not scottish in any way.

Also I have seen push the pinkie and the hearth finger in the chanter in open fingering.

I remember one boy that told Galician Gaitas in B flat are scottish.......... Well, clarinets, Muchosa, French Cabrettes....maybe they are scottish for be in B flat also :P

Another thing is to play scottish ornamentation in a Galician Chanter: THIS IS AN SCOTTISH INFLUENCE.

OK, I am trying to work out the basic fingerings, am I correct below? (the D system equivalents are in parentheses) do most gaiteros use the C or D system note names? "O Penta Fol" uses C and the "Secrets of the Galician Bagpipe" uses D.

XXX XXXX B (C#)
X __________________________________
XXX XXXO C (D)
X___________________________________
XXX XXOO D (E)
X___________________________________
XXX XOOO E (F#)
X___________________________________
XXX OOOX F (G)

XXO OOO X G (A)
X___________________________________
XOO OOO X A (B)

OOO OOO X B (C#)
X___________________________________
OXX XXX O High C (D)
