bottom thumb control

Postby davidthepiper » Tue May 21, 2013 12:40 pm

I'm learning the Gaitas after playing the Highland Pipes for a few years. The Gaita is supposed to be played with finger tips and open hole fingering. When playing the upper two notes (G and A equivalent GHP) I have no control over the bottom of the Gaita chanter. Is there a thumb rest or advice that anyone has to facilitate going from a G to a B or similar?

Do you keep the pinky down throughout the fingering sequence?
